As of April 2022, 5-HTP (synthesised or extracted from Griffonia) was deemed Novel. Subsequently, it was challenged and in May 2024 the Novel Food catalogue was updated to allow seed extracts up to 30%. Synthetic 5-HTP is still Novel.
G&G will only sell Griffonia seed powder or Griffonia seed water-extracted to provide a maximum of 30% 5-HTP. Griffonia seed naturally contains about 10% 5-HTP.
