Ubiquinol is the biologically active form of CoQ10 (Ubiquinone). It was researched and developed by Kaneka in Japan and we first enquired about it in 2010.

At that time it was only available as an oil, so softgels were the only option. Kaneka continued their research into developing a powdered version, the main issue was stability and it took many years before they had a properly stable powder that could be sold. It was also patented at the time.

In 2013 the powder was available commercially, but only in small volumes and very limited supply. The cost was nearly 10 times the cost of Ubiquinone.

By 2017 it was more available but still with a high price tag and it is only 30% Ubiquinol, the rest is Dextrin, Gum Arabic, Ascorbic acid and Soy Lecithin, this is what keeps it stable.

There may be generic versions around, which are listed cheaper, but they may not be properly stabilised so could be a waste of money.
